Pretty much my entire life, I have thought of Valentine’s Day as a silly holiday. I didn’t understand why we would celebrate romantic love, especially if it was one day a year. I myself am not a romantic person, so I don’t really celebrate Valentine’s Day, I just choose to spend the day alone or with family. I know that Valentine’s Day can be rough for some people, so here’s some ideas on how to treat yourself for Valentine’s Day!
- Make Yourself a Nice Dinner
I love food and I love cooking, despite being a Celiac vegetarian/vegan. One of the best ways to treat yourself is making yourself food. You don’t have to make anything crazy, but I definitely suggest trying something new.
If you really struggle on Valentine’s Day, take your mind off of the holiday by dancing! Put on your favorite music and dance around your house.
- Read a Book
Another great way to take your mind off the holiday & relax is to read a book. You can choose to read a romantic book or a non-romantic book. Either way, make sure you enjoy the experience!
- Have a “Spa Day”
A really great way to treat yourself throughout the year is to have a spa night. You can do a hair mask, facial, mani/pedi, or pretty much anything else! It is really good to treat yourself in this way once in a while.
- Have a Movie Night
Every week, my family has a movie night. We make popcorn, eat candy, and watch our favorite films. I really look forward to doing this each week and sometimes it keeps me going. I highly recommend having a movie night to treat yourself, whether you do it alone or with others.
- Play Video Games
If you’re not really into the aforementioned entertainment ideas, you can also play video games! Video games keep you distracted and can be a great way to relieve stress.
- Order Your Favorite Food
For those of you who don’t enjoy cooking or can’t cook, you can order in your favorite foods. DoorDash and Postmates are great delivery apps and deliver almost anywhere.
Whether or not you decide to cook yourself dinner, you can also try baking. Valentine’s Day has certainly become a sweets-themed holiday, so baking yourself a special something definitely fits the theme.
- Go Shopping
If you are financially able to, treat yourself to a shopping spree. You can either go out and shop or shop online, whatever you are more comfortable with.
- Be Romantic to Yourself
I know this sounds crazy, but there is nothing wrong with being romantic to yourself! Write yourself a love letter, order yourself flowers, or go out and buy one of those cheesy Valentine’s Day chocolates for yourself.
If you enjoy exercise, working out on Valentine’s Day might be a good idea. You will feel much better after a workout and your body will thank you!
- Spend Time with Family, Friends, and/or Pets
Since Valentine’s Day is so “in-your-face” with romantic love, fight back by investing your time in other types of love. Spending time with people you love will make you feel a lot better.
- Organize and/or Redecorate
One way to instantly boost your mood is organizing and/or redecorating your home or room. Not only will you feel better while doing it, you will also feel a sense of accomplishment when you are done.
- Learn Something New
Learning something new is a very productive way to spend your Valentine’s Day. Whether you go out and take a class or stay home and watch YouTube videos, you will feel much better when you master a skill or language or whatever it is you want to learn!
