How to Prevent Colds

It is very difficult nowadays to avoid catching a cold when someone in your home or workplace has a cold. In America, it is very difficult for people to skip days of work without consequences. Therefore, people will continue going to work and risk spreading their cold. To help prevent or quickly get rid of colds before they get too bad, follow these steps!

  • Get Your Vitamin C

Vitamin C is water-soluble so you cannot easily overdose on it. Vitamin C helps your body function better so you can beat your cold. I recommend drinking Emergen-C as well as eating foods rich in Vitamin C such as oranges. If you prefer something quick and simple, I recommend drinking orange juice.

  • Clear Your Sinuses

To make you feel better as you fight off the cold, you need to make sure your sinuses are clear. I like to eat hot foods such as salsa or flamin’ hot Cheetos to help me clear out my sinuses. I would recommend flamin’ hot Cheetos if you want something milder that will still clear out your sinuses. They’re really good, but not the healthiest thing you can eat, so be sure to eat them in moderation.

  • Drink Green Tea

As you have probably heard, green tea has a lot of benefits. The heat from the tea will help clear your sinuses and drinking it will help your body work better to fight off the cold. It will also increase your metabolism so you might lose a bit of weight while drinking it!

  • Rebounding

A great way to clear your lymphatic system is to rebound. You can look up videos on how to do rebounding on YouTube or just do the ‘health bounce’ which is when you stand on the trampoline and just slightly bounce, without taking your feet off the trampoline.

  • Take Zinc

Zinc can help prevent colds as well as help ease symptoms if you catch the cold. My favorite way to get zinc is from Cold-Eeze tablets. Be careful to read the instructions, as these tablets can make you nauseous.

  • Relax & Rest

The best thing to do for your body when you are trying to get rid of or prevent a cold is to rest! Your body needs to be relaxed and rested for you to properly fight off the cold. Try to get about 8 hours of sleep per night and do not push your body beyond its limits.

  • Stay Clean

To prevent yourself from getting a cold, you should be showering daily and washing your hands often. Clearing yourself of germs will help you avoid catching a cold.

  • Hum

Humming is a very effective way to prevent sinus infections and temporarily clear your sinuses. Make sure not to push yourself, as you can end up doing more harm than good with this.

  • VapoRub

This product is more effective when used during colds, but it can help clear your sinuses and makes you feel so much better. You could also place eucalyptus in your bathroom when showering for a similar effect.

  • Lymphatic Drainage Massage

You can find a lot of helpful lymphatic draining self-massages online to help clear your sinuses and get rid of your cold faster.

  • Eat Healthily

 As always, you must eat healthily. It is even more important to eat healthily when you are trying to either prevent or get rid of a cold.

  • Get Fresh Air

If it is not too cold outside, try to get some fresh air! Getting fresh air is so good for your body, as is “earthing”. Nature is healing to our bodies, so we must find time to connect with nature as often as possible.

  • Drink Water

To prevent a cold, you must drink more water than usual. Drinking water helps your body function properly so that you can fight off colds and the flu.
